Li-Po

I suggest running a standard balance on your batteries once a month without a charge.

1) Dont ever drop them including falling out the sky attached to your heli
2) Dont let them go flat...If they are do, charge them as Nimh for a short while at low current

Speaking of balancers...anyone seen the Swallow AC/DC's balancers in any of the shops? There's now even a newer version of this charger in the country but still I haven't been able to source a balancer locally? Looks like I may just have to throw this thing in the garbage and get a flightpower charger and balancer, not having much luck. I got this one cause my other swallow needs a powersupply and I didn't want to carry all that over to the world champs last year so the AC/DC charger looked like the ticket, and it had a balancer connector for a "soon to come" additional balancing unit? Been 6 months odd now?

Oh and more on topic, be very carefull when doing the recovery from low voltage warnings on the cheaper chargers (read trusty old small swallows) by charging with the NiMh function especially on the cheaper batteries! The more high performance and higher end packs will survive this one most of the time but the batteries like the E-sky stuff etc I would certainly stand back for. Hehehehe

LMAO! I think it's safe to say the wife doesn't know about this website does she?

I'll also risk saying you only own a small handfull of these batteries correct? They do become a second family that needs special attention everyday when you start owning 20 of them like me  :-\

The big batteries freak me out the most however. Like the one I have for my Sebart Katana S30, that's one brick of a lipo and I'll cry if something happens to that beast. I can just imagine someone owning them big T-rex 600 batteries. Worst feeling I ever got though was at the last Whitehills electric fly-in when Simon asked me to do a little demo with his new Sebart Katana S50...I went to put the plane's battery back in on of his battery boxes after the flight and got quite a surprise. This battery in its own right was a brick and a half but when I opened the battery box which is one of these little big jim style things this puppy was filled lipos! And he has a few of these?!? My heart skipped a beat when I thought of the responsibilities that goes along with caring for one of those boxes...nevermind two or more.

Then it might be one of the newer versions? THey apparently have a balancer built in already. Mine's got a seperate little plug on the one side but it's definitely for the plug in external balancer, looks a little like a SATA plug or something hehehe. I reckon I'm just gonna go out and get one of the almight Thunderpower chargers, those things are HOT.

Hi, Swallow chargers are great. Don't know about the Swallow Balancer though. I use a stand alone balancer. As for Lithium Polymer, you have to look after them, don't drop...To Often, don't discharge them completely and watch for the tell tale sign when they start to inflate like a bag of Microwave popcorn. So always store in a safe area, away from glow fuels and other combustible substances like your house for instance :) Good news though, Lithium Manganese batteries will soon be appearing on the market. Same type of performance, but a lot less volatile.
