Afraid I'm not too clued up on the small "affordable" electric helis but from what I've seen yes they are a little frail. But don't give up, even the big helis will sometimes give you hassles you weren't hoping for. It's the nature of the beast.
Problem usually comes in with the 4 in 1 unit that acts as the reciever, speed controller and gyro. Crashing and not getting power off the motors quick enough could damage the controller (ESC) which then of course affects/damages the reciever and gyro also. I suspect this is the case with yours but of course I can't be sure. Let em fix it and keep at it! I've had big glow models lie on the shelf for months saving up for the repair, but I'm still flying these things.
