Hi Guy's
Just a little something I found on the web and wanted to share.
To calculate optimum head speed is quite simple, Just divide optimum engine rpm by gear ratio.
Example: motor rpm = 17000, gear ratio = 8.5 therefore 17000 / 8.5 = 2000rpm headspeed
blade tip speed is easy to using this little formula (HS RPM x minutes/hour) x (Factor x rotor diam) / 1000000
Example: headspeed = 2000
Min/hr = 60
Factor = 3.142857143
Rotor dia = 1345mm
Therefore (2000 x 60) x (3.142857143 x 1345) / 1000000
(120000) x (4227.142857) / 1000000
(507257142.9 / 100000
= 507.257 km/h
tail rotor speed = headspeed x gear ratio, therefore 2000 x 4.56 = 9120 rpm
(9120 x 60) x (3.142857143 x 230) / 1000000
(547200) x (722.8571429) / 1000000
(395547428.6) / 1000000
= 395.547 km/h
Don't know about you guys but deffinately don't want any blades coming off my heli. that is why the proper procedures must be followed when installing the plastic blade grip bosses on wooden blades.
