Newbie

Hi Everyone

I'm Gavin and reside in Phalaborwa. Started "flying heli's in july last year so relatively new to rc heli's.
my brother inlaw had been into flying rc plane's and heli's some years back and his son managed to salvage is old Raptor 30 V1 (amazingly this heli is still flying stock albeit a new os 37 motor, not bad for a 10 year old heli) I saw a Raptor 30V2 for sale from a local chap for a bargain and as they say "the bug bit and the rest is history" since then I've upgraded the 30V2 to a 50V2/Titan and got a 50 Titan waiting to be built up. starting to fly figure 8's but taking things easy. we are only a couple of guys who fly at our local sports ground every Sunday. I met Rudolf "Spacey" at Johan's farm (Tzaneen flying club) late last year and all I can say is wow, I believe it was a JR Vibe he was flying if memory serves me correct but needless to say he really sliced up some serious air that day.
Anyway, still trying to get my rudder/gyro sorted as since a transfered it from the 30 to 50 it is not behaving very nicely. Regards. Gavin
P.S. Nice to have a local forum site going, Thanks guys ;D

Hey Gavin,

Welcome to the forum yes! Glad you could join in. Don't fear to post. ;) Hehehe. I'll probably see you guys again over easter weekend or somewhere there. Hope you guys can maybe help as I'm looking for a place to practise F3C a little while I'm there, we can all truck out to Johan's place again but it's awfully far to drive for a few flights.

Will be looking forward to that. yes Johan's place is far out to drive but I don't know what is happening there because I hear the guy's from Tzaneen don't go there anymore. We just continue doing our thing at Impala park which suits us just fine. we have arranged to fly on the soccer field on days when there is to many "people" on the rugby fields.

Hey forgot to say congratulations with winning the SA F3C championships and good luck for the worlds.

Hi Gavin,

Yes I heard things at Johan's place is a little up and down, don't know much however. Impala park is fine for fun flying but I won't be able to do any F3C work there, you guys don't have any other options yet?

Thanks for the congrats, doesn't look like we're going to be able to make the world champs thing happen though as money's much to slow to come in to fund the trip. But we'll see what happens.

Hi Spacey

How does F3C compare with 3D and how much space are you talking about? Could possibly try and arrange to go fly at the special forces strip. maybe when you are in town again I could pick your brain abit and have you check my heli out. I know I don't have nearly enough experiance or skills to validate a more upmarket setup but trying my best to make do with what i got. Let me know if you have exact dates so that I can see what I could arrange things this side for you.
Regards, Gavin

Hi Gavin,

Would you guys perhaps be interested in a little setup clinic where you pay me a ridiculously large amount of money each and we do a little few day course on the tech side of helis along with setup? I say ridiculously large amounts of money because as you probably know this money WILL be going towards our trip to the USA? I will swing the idea by Johan Otto as well see what he reckons?

I need a good landing pad which is fine at Impala park but I'm going to be flying over the high school on one side and turning over the garage there by the bridge if I practise F3C at Impala park..lol. Just need a place with no houses around so we can work a decent flightline? The strip out on the base sounds good yes.

Will speak to my mom on Sunday evening and fix the dates for sure!

Hi Gavin,

Easiest would be for you guys to chat to everyone there quickly and get a number on who will be attending. Then discuss between each other what you guys will be willing to put on the table? I can't be too picky right now about money coming in towards our fund as we're still short more than R70 000. But yes, my chat with you guys will take up a whole day and then some so I'd obviously like to make it worth the effort as far as possible seeing as I don't see my parents much.
