SAPAC AMERICA T-45 Goshawk
« on: December 13, 2008, 05:33:22 PM »

The Boeing (McDonnell Douglas) T-45 Goshawk is a modified version of the BAE Hawk Mk.60 and is flown by the U.S. Navy. First flown in 1988, it became operational in 1991. Powered by a single 5,200 pound-thrust Rolls Royce/Turbomeca Adour turbofan engine, it is used for training for carrier-based aviation and tactical strike missions. The latest version of the aircraft, the T-45C, includes a multi-functional digital cockpit display. The Goshawk replaced the Navy's intermediate T-2 Buckeye and the advanced TA-4 Skyhawk trainers. The SAPAC T-45 electric ducted-fan jet is an impressive ARF and the kit is packed extremely well—it could survive a fall off a roof! The main components all come individually wrapped and surrounded in foam. The parts for each step of assembly are individually packaged.

Pilot Debriefing
In general, the SAPAC T-45 is a great flying, great-looking sport scale model. It has amazing performance for such a reasonably priced airplane. Since I fly from a grass field, I installed a tow-hook and used a 15-foot length of bungee material and nylon kite string that ended in a tow ring to launch the model. For best stability, the tow-hook is located 1⁄3 back the distance from the nose to the model's CG location. I installed a plywood plate inside the fuselage and the hook screws into it. A skid block is also attached the bottom of the fuselage just in front of the hook.
