Which Simulator?
« on: July 31, 2008, 09:27:52 AM »
Hi,

I decided to invest in a decent simulator regarding my “heli training”. Considering the cost I really do not want to be disappointed. I see much written about Realflight G4, Phoenix and Reflex. I’m sure all of these are excellent but does anyone have some advice?

Thanks,
M

Phoenix all the way

I have not used it yet, mine is arriving next week.
But from what i have heard it is the BEST

And you can also play online with other guys, all flying at the same field.
The phoenix website also releases updates all the time, that you can download for free
Just make sure to get the right cable for your TX.

As far as i know these sims also require a half decent pc setup, enough ram and a decent graphics card.

I have always used Aerofly professional and extremly happy with the graphics and output.

Hard to setup  but if you register in their site, lots of stuff to download with maps and planes.

Used to be a big Aerofly Pro Deluxe fan, then I switched to Phoenix when it was released on another friend's recommendation. At first I was a little unsure and kept my Aerofly just in case, never fired up the Aerofly agian and sold it eventually. Phoenix's planes needs a little adjusting on some of the 3D models but so did Aerofly, once you tweak them to your style of flying they kick buttocks. The helis in Phoenix are lightyears ahead of Aerofly. I have a few gripes still especially when practising F3C on the sim but even then Phoenix does help me keep the fingers loose.

Auto rotation,

Doing my time on the simulator, can anybody give me some advise what it the theory regarding autorotation (and engine failure in mid air for that matter), getting the heli safe (or at least the minimal damage) on the ground. I’ve crashed so many times I think I’m gonna break the sim ! he he

hi Micheal

can you maybe be more specific regarding auto's.....

its actually very difficult science on how it all works..(same princeple as a auto gyro) ... but one don't need the science part to do it....

there loads of articles out there.. .. i can try find some for you as well (here nice one: http://www.littlerotors.com/flyinglessons/autorotations.aspx )

the only reall thing needed for start auto's in real life is big balls.. and them loads of spare tail blades if you have sement or tar runwya/landing area...

i saved heli again this weekend after running out of fuel ;-)

Afraid you wasted data on that one. You will need the original Phoenix dongle which you can only get from buying the original from a Hobby Shop. Also beware of cheap imitations, their not the real deal and you will not get the full benefit of the software which includes the free updates.

Phoenix is not that expensive, just go buy it from the right shop.

If your nearest hobby shop is worth their salt they should have it available or be able to get it quickly. If you don't have a shop nearby get in touch with the guys at http://www.revohobbies.co.za they normally stock it.
